Punta Tech Meetup (PTM) is one of the most important tech gatherings in the region, where technology leaders from Latin America and the world come together every year. Punta del Este provides the ideal natural setting for entrepreneurs, investors and business executives to meet and share their ideas and projects, and do business together. The spirit of the event is to foster the meeting of key stakeholders in the world of technology and business so that they can exchange ideas and strengthen their connections in one of the main seaside resorts in the region. Connecting people and promoting good business opportunities are the essential factors that guide the spirit of this event.
Kevin M. Esvelt is an assistant professor of the MIT Media Lab, where he leads the Sculpting Evolution Group in exploring evolutionary and ecological engineering. He received his Ph.D. from Harvard University for inventing a synthetic microbial ecosystem to rapidly evolve useful biomolecules, and subsequently helped pioneer the development of CRISPR, a powerful new method of genome engineering.
In 2013, Esvelt was the first to identify the potential for CRISPR “gene drive” systems to alter wild populations of organisms. Recognizing the implications of an advance that could enable individual scientists to alter the shared environment, he and his colleagues chose to break with scientific tradition by revealing their findings and calling for open discussion and safeguards before they demonstrated the technology in the laboratory.
He is also a member of the Executive Committee of Citigroup Treasury & Trade Solutions Latin America and responsible for the Data Innovation Agenda. In his current role, Driss is responsible for the entire range of digital and mobile banking platforms for cash management, liquidity investment services, equity solutions, business cards and commercial operations, to enable multinationals, financial entities and organizations of the public sector operate in the most connected and efficient way across 22 countries in Latin America and more than 70 countries in the world.

Dating back to 2008, Punta Tech Meetup is the realization of a common vision brought together by two leading uruguayan entrepreneurs: Pablo Brenner and Sergio Fogel. Since 2010, the event has been organized by LUCERO Productions, led by Carolina Kind and Bruno Gadea. What started as a casual gathering of industry leaders vacationing in Punta del Este became a privileged space for relaxation and business opportunities. This was possible by the ever-growing number of participants.
In January 2018 we celebrated a decade of innumerable achievements and shared moments in a very special event with an unprecedented attendance: more than 1.200 people. Now, we are excited to start a new stage with an improved edition, full of new objectives, experiences and ideas, while keeping the same spirit.
